Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 - 1750) - German composer and virtuoso musician, one of the main figures of the High Baroque. Although underappreciated as a composer in his time, today he is considered a symbol of baroque music and his monumental work inspires creators all over the world. The recorder was rather on the fringes of his interests, however, transcriptions of his flute sonatas, as well as cello suites and violin and organ sonatas are popular among instrument lovers. Flute ensembles around the world play his organ literature, whether from The
Art of the Fugue or a number of his organ opuses.
