Giovanni Battista Fontana (1589 - 1630) – Italian early Baroque composer and violinist. Born in Brescia, he worked in Venice, Rome, and Padua, where he died during an epidemic in the years 1629 - 30. He was among the first composers who created sonatas of a new form - full of emotion and instrumental virtuosity.
